New Home Construction

There are many things to consider when contemplating new home construction vs. buying a home that is already built. Having a new home built can not only be very stressful but it can also become very expensive. There are several things you can keep in mind to avoid falling into a money trap.

Keep in mind that even experienced contractors have regretted the decision to be their own general contractors due to the complexity of the process and all that can go wrong. There are also many factors of new home construction that have to do with the financing aspect that can have you pulling out your hair.

On the other hand, there are definately some positive aspects of new home construction. Many of the larger home builders today are offering a wide variety of floor plans with a slew of customizable options for cabinets, doors, building materials and energy features that will fall into the contraints of their standard lot sizes.

One task that may be worth your while is asking if your home builder will include closing costs in the final price of the construction. Make sure to research builders thoroughly before contracting them. You should talk with other home owners in the community you're looking to build in and ask for references. Also, check with the Better Business Bureau to see how your prospective builder stacks up. Has your builder resolved problems in a timely manner? Have they stuck to their original completion dates?
